Mark Garnier , Wyre Forest’s MP, opened an historic debate last night. For the first time the interests of Independent Financial Advisors and the effects of the FSA’s Retail Distribution Review, has been subjected to parliamentary scrutiny in the Chamber of the House of Commons.

Mark Garnier and Harriet Baldwin, MP for West Worcestershire, have been working on a long-standing campaign to prevent local independent financial advisers being driven out of business by changes in regulations laid out by their governing body – the Financial Services Authority.

Mark Garnier and fellow Conservatives have been in Birmingham for the Party Conference. As a newly elected MP with a special interest in financial matters and a seat on the Treasury Select Committee, Mark has been asked to speak at a number of events. As well as this, Mark is meeting with special interest groups. 

Mark Garnier Elected to Treasury Select Committee

Wyre Forest’s MP, Mark Garnier, is delighted to have been elected to one of the 13 seats on the hugely influential Treasury Select Committee. In a change from the previous arrangement, where seats on this committee were in the gift of the party whips, MPs are now voted onto the committees by their colleagues.

Mark Garnier makes Maiden Speech in the House of Commons

Mark Garnier, Member of Parliament for Wyre Forest, has made his Maiden Speech in the House of Commons. He paid tribute to the outgoing MP for the constituency and spoke warmly of Kidderminster, Stourport, Bewdley and the rural areas that surround them. The full text of the speech can be found here.
