This Saturday, Conservatives across the county will be launching their campaign for a stop to Gordon Brown's health cuts and for a fairer deal for Worcestershire's NHS workers. And Wyre Forest is no exception. Gordon Brown's mismanagement has resulted in a £1.28bln deficit in the NHS country wide - the worst ever overdraft seen by the NHS.
As a result, there will be stringent cutbacks, with the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch due for the worse cuts. And for 720 Worcestershire health workers, the future is bleak with their jobs being slashed in response to local cuts.
Meanwhile, Brown's departing boss has tried to look busy by reorganizing the NHS ten times since 1997!
Residents in Wyre Forest have been voting in protest against health cuts for years, yet the Government has flatly refused to listen to what they have been saying.
This weekend, Conservatives across Worcestershire will be running street stalls, collecting signatures calling for an end to Gordon Brown's health cuts. In Kidderminster, Mark Garnier will be running a stall from 12.30 to 2.00 and he will be accompanied by his colleagues from across the county. Bromsgrove MP Julie Kirkbride will be in Kidderminster, as will Karen Lumley, the Parliamentary Candidate for Redditch, and newly selected Candidate for Worcester City Robin Walker.
Speaking about the campaign, Mark Garnier said:
"It beggars belief that Gordon Brown can be so arrogant and heartless when it comes to Wyre Forest. After so many elections when Wyre Forest residents have repeatedly said they do not want health cuts, it seems that he has no interest at all in Wyre Forest's voice.
"Well, David Cameron has been listening and has promised that his priorities for a Conservative Government can be summed up in three letters: N H S.
"David Cameron's proposals will put an end to ministerial meddling and political interference by handing back control to health professionals. He will also set in place a fairer funding structure that will see Worcestershire get its fair share of the health budget. And finally, he will put and end to the misery and stress imposed on health workers of endless, headline grabbing re-organisations."
