The new year opens to the sound of picket lines. Starting on Wednesday this week, junior doctors are striking for 6 days, targeted to cause the most amount of disruption at the most difficult time of the year for the NHS.
The new year beckons. Of course, we all start with good intentions and resolutions. I usually have a stab at Veganuary, trying out a vegan diet. It’s not for any ideological reason, more to find out its appeal.
I always love this time of year – who doesn’t? It’s a great opportunity to get stressed about last minute arrangements, of course. But more importantly, it’s a good opportunity to reflect on the last year.
We have had contact from Local residents withdrawing their pole objections, we have issued the planning application and our polling supplier should be requesting the permits for earliest available date to enable us to put our poles in.
Today I held a Westminster Hall Debate on the increased Misuse of Nitrous Oxide and the devastating affect it has on users many of whom are teenagers unaware of the risks they are taking.

I must apologise. In the 13 years I have been Wyre Forest’s MP, I have successfully avoided writing about the same subject two weeks running. But not this week. Immigration continues to dominate the political universe here in Westminster.
Immigration is a subject that doesn’t quite dominate my inbox, but certainly occupies the concerns of many who write to me. In the main, of course, it’s the asylum seekers crossing the Chanel in small boats. But the recent immigration figures announced last week have certainly caused concern.
This week saw the Autumn budget. Its always tricky, trying to sum it up in these pages. By the time it goes to press, there will have been huge volumes of commentary and analysis.
