Mark Garnier, MP for Wyre Forest, spoke in a debate today on financial education for young people, in which he made a strong case for financial education to be included in the school curriculum.
The debate comes after the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Financial Education released its report on the subject. The report follows an eight month, UK wide inquiry and recommends that the Government should promote the provision of high quality financial education in schools in England.
Mark, who is vice chair of the APPG and co founder, has taken a keen interest in this issue and has been heavily involved in the writing of this report. Speaking after his speech in the House of Commons today he said:
"Financial education is crucial to optimise people life chances and to tackle some of the problems we have in our society and financial system. It is wrong that for so long people have been denied any type of formal financial education. That is why I was so keen to participate in the writing of this important report and to reinforce that message in the Commons chamber."
Mark's speech can be found on Hansard here. Please note it will only be available on 16th December.
