Mark Garnier MP welcomes the Government's plan to introduce financial education to school curriculum.
The new curriculum will see elements of personal finance included in both mathematics and citizenship education.
Mark Garnier said: 'I am delighted to see the Government announce the introduction of financial education elements in school curriculum, as I have been campaigning for greater financial awareness among young people for a long time.
'I hope the new curriculum will help tackle two of our major problems: financial illiteracy and the plague of misselling of financial products.
'I am very glad to see that the campaigning efforts of APPG Financial Education for Young People and of Personal Finance Education Group have paid off. I am certain that this introduction of financial literacy will be a major engine for social mobility in the 21st century.'
Michael Gove today announced that a public consultation on the draft curriculum will run until mid-April, and the changes are to be introduced to classrooms in September 2014.
