Mark Garnier, MP for Wyre Forest, met with David Cameron on Wednesday (18th January) to discuss the benefits of making financial education compulsory in the school curriculum. He was joined by fellow members of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Financial Education for Young People, which released a report on the subject in December.
The report recommended that the Government should promote the provision of high quality financial education in schools in England. Mr Cameron agreed to read the report and meet with members of the APPG during Prime Minister’s Questions last month.
Following the meeting Mark said:
“I am eager that as we face tougher times, it is absolutely vital that people are prepared to meet those financial demands. There is no better way to equip the next generation for the future than to teach them financial literacy. That is why I am working with the other APPG members to drive financial education in the curriculum forward as a priority.”
Also at the meeting was Justin Tomlinson MP for Swindon. Justin is chair of the APPG and a former pupil of Harry Cheshire School in Kidderminster, now called Baxter College.
