Mark Garnier MP last week visited Brussels as part of his involvement in the Fresh Start Project.
The project is a Conservative backbench initiative aiming at renegotiating a better position for Britain in the European Union prior to the planned referendum on Britain's membership.
As part of his visit, Mark met with several Members of the European Parliament to discuss the Fresh Start's proposed reforms. Some of the issues discussed included the proposed review of competencies, rebalancing some competencies back to member states, as well as the proposal to extend the double-majority voting mechanism, adopted by the European Banking Authority, to other areas of EU decision-making.
Mark Garnier commented: "This was another successful trip for the Fresh Start Group, and I am pleased to see that decision makers across the continent agree with some of our ideas. I am also happy to see how attitudes change once we explain that Britain is not bound to exit, but instead, it is only trying to get a fairer deal for its membership in the European Union.
"Our proposals have been welcomed in Germany and Brussels but our work continues and more needs to be done to ensure Britain is successful in future negotiations."
