Mark Garnier MP today welcomed the latest spending review in which Chancellor George Osborne committed to delivering fairer funding for schools.
The Coalition Government is the first government in the last two decades to acknowledge that the existing funding arrangements are unfair and inequitable.
The decision announced last week has been welcomed by campaign group f40, which represents the local authorities with the poorest funded schools in the country.
Mark Garnier commented: "I am delighted to see another success of the f40 group campaigning for fairer funding for schools in our county. George Osborne's announcement means we are a step closer to narrowing the funding gap between Worcestershire and Birmingham, which currently stands at a staggering £1,088 per pupil. We now need to ensure that the Government delivers on its promise to introduce the long-awaited national funding formula before 2015.
"Importantly, I would like to thank all teachers and parents who have been campaigning for a fairer national funding formula in the past years, and whose crucial involvement brings us a step closer to securing a fair deal for our children across Worcestershire."
