Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier visited Kidderminster’s postal delivery office to see for himself the Christmas rush. And on a day when there was a fresh layer of snow on the ground, heard all about the arrangements for bad weather.
With 120,000 items of post passing through the unit each day at this time of year, there morning shift was working flat out. Mark was shown around by local manager Dave Harwood, who brought him up to date on the bad weather arrangements.
Mark said: “It was fascinating to look around the delivery office. Processing 120,000 items of post every day is a truly enormous task.
“The bad weather has caused a backlog further up the chain and it is hoped to be able to clear it before Christmas. But the fresh snow on the ground makes it tough for post men and women who suffer bumps and broken bones like the rest of us falling on icy pavements. I know they are all doing their best to get all the mail out before Christmas, but I would hope that local residents can see that sometimes it is very difficult indeed for the postal service to be able to get through in these bad conditions.”
