The Government has launched a new national scheme that, for the first time, will allow social housing tenants wanting to swap their home to see every available property in the country.
Until now tenants have been restricted to swapping properties with other tenants in the scheme chosen by their landlord - effectively meaning only a partial swap scheme existed. 'HomeSwap Direct' will instead give tenants access to properties nationwide by linking together all existing home-swap services for the first time. This means that tenants will be able to see the full range of available properties therefore boosting their prospects of moving.
Mark said: “This is a fantastic way of better addressing the needs of people in social housing. People want to move for many reasons- to be closer to a new job, their family or to a property more suited to them- and this scheme gives them greater choice. Whether people want to move in or out of Wyre Forest this will provide crucial mobility to the country’s labour force.”
The scheme will be available online from next April, and more details can be found at www.communities.gov.uk.
