Mark Garnier, MP for Wyre Forest, has written to Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Exon Mobile (Esso) asking why their petrol prices are so high in Kidderminster compared to other local towns such as Wolverhampton.
Among other examples Mark cited the fact that, whilst Sainsbury’s Wednesfield on Rookery Street in Wolverhampton was charging only 129.9 pence per litre of unleaded petrol, on the same day Sainsbury’s Kidderminster on Carpet Traders Way was charging 135.9 pence per litre.
In his letter to the Chief Executives of the three companies Mark said:
“I am very much aware that, owing to a number of factors, the current price of oil is incredibly high. I also understand that the impact of such factors will inevitably filter down to the pockets of my constituents. However, please could you explain why your outlets are charging up to 5 pence more per litre in Kidderminster when the distance between these petrol stations is less than 20 miles?”
Mark is still awaiting their responses which he will be putting on this website.
