People accept that in order to get clean water, electricity, gas, telephones etc, we occasionally need road works. But for local traders whose shops are adjacent to the road works, the disruption may result in reduced takings.
This has certainly been the case in Bewdley and Stourport where major road works have caused significant problems for traders.
It is right that the utility companies pay compensation and there is a scheme available to do so. But the system is so unfathomable that many claimants give up. This will address two key points: that the compensation packages ignore seasonality; and that the different utilities use a variety of complex procedures, putting off claims.
