The number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) in Wyre Forest has decreased by 1% since the Government took power. This shows a marked difference from the figures between 2005 and 2010 where the number of JSA claimants jumped from 1,028 to 2,448- an increase of 138%.
Mark Garnier, MP for Wyre Forest, tentatively welcomed the news of a decrease but made the point that the number is still too high:
“It is shocking that Wyre Forest saw the number of people claiming JSA more than double between 2005 and 2010 and I am very pleased that that trend has now stopped. However, despite this, the number is still tragically too high.
“These figures reinforce why I have organised the Wyre Forest Jobs Fair to take place on the 29th March at Kidderminster Town Hall. We need to get local people back into local jobs and I am confident that the jobs fair will go far in achieving that. If anyone is unemployed or knows someone looking for work, please come down or spread the word.”
The Jobs Fair will run from 1pm to 6pm. For more information call 01562 746 711 or visit the Facebook page: Kidderminster Jobs Fair.
