Mark Garnier MP, Wyre Forest's MP, has stepped in at Westminster to help the Kidderminster Harriers. Mark, who has been visiting the Harrier's management for a number of years and has brought Jeremy Hunt MP, Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport, has rallied the support of MPs with a local interest in the team. MP for Northampton South, Brian Binley MP, is a former Wyre Forest resident and former signed up player for the Harriers in the 1960s.
Justin Tomlinson, MP for Swindon North, a former harry Cheshire pupil who grew up in Kidderminster, is a lifelong fan of the team.
All three MPs have pledged to come and support the Harriers on Saturday as part of Mark's campaign to get as many people to come along to this weekend's match against Altringham.
"The usual gate for the Harriers ranges from 700 to around 1,500, but capacity is 6,250" says Mark. "If we can get a capacity crowd this weekend, the club will take nearly £100,000 - two thirds of the way to sorting out their problems. Not only that, it will show a new generation of potential Harriers supporters what a good way to spend a Saturday afternoon a football match is."
Tom Watson, MP for West Bromwich East, has also expressed his enthusiasm to support the team.
"There is a real chance to save our club," says Mark, "so let's all get together and show our support."
