At an extraordinary general meeting of the Wyre Forest Conservative Association held at Margaret Thatcher House last night, it was agreed that Mark Garnier would stand again as the Conservative candidate in Wyre Forest at the next Parliamentary Election.
Mark Garnier contested the Wyre Forest seat in the 2005 General Election against KHHC MP, Dr Richard Taylor. Despite failing to win the seat for Conservatives, Mark Garnier's result showed some of the best results in the whole country, achieving a swing to Conservatives of 14% and a massive 45% gain in the Conservative vote.
Speaking after the meeting, local Conservative Chairman Phil Green said: "We are truly delighted that Mark is staying with us in Wyre Forest. He is a very hard working candidate and well respected amongst the Parliamentary Party in Westminster. That is important given the unusual nature of politics in Wyre Forest."
Mark Garnier continued: "It is truly a great honour for me to be standing again in Wyre Forest. Politics is about representing people and I have got to know and like local residents - it is them that I seek to represent. I look forward to taking up the challenges both locally and nationally where they affect Wyre Forest residents - challenges in policing, health, education, pensions, energy, the economy, rural affairs and any number of other issues."
