Mark Garnier, Wyre Forest's MP, has today joined a new parliamentary pressure group seeking to renegotiate PFI contracts. The group, launched by Hereford and South Herefordshire MP Jesse Norman, aims to recoup £500 million from existing, badly negotiated, PFI contracts.
Speaking after the launch of this group, Mark Garnier said: "People in Wyre Forest will be aware of poor PFI contracts. Worcester Royal Hospital was built under a PFI contract signed around a decade ago and is widely accepted as being a poorly negotiated deal. This group aims to bring pressure to bear on PFI providers in order to bring money back from big corporate entities and into public services. This is an important group as everything must be done to protect frontline services, and this is a way to help find more money."
The group has a new website, www.pfi-rebate.org where news of its activities can be found.
