This afternoon Mark Garnier, MP for Wyre Forest, spoke up for his constituents in a debate urging the Government to stabilise the cost of fuel. The debate on a motion, tabled by MP Robert Halfon, comes after 100,000 people signed an e-petition to have their voices heard.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Mark called for the Government to look at further reducing fuel duty. He said, “Now is not the time to allow rising fuel prices to limit the mobility of our workforce and to hinder our manufacturers and retailers by increased transportation costs.”
Mark also mentioned the fact that Wyre Forest residents have unfairly been paying over 6p per litre more for petrol than those in nearby Dudley and Wolverhampton. In his speech he said this extra cost to run a car has been “causing a great deal of anguish amongst my constituents”. Referring to it as a “rural surcharge” Mark called for the oil companies “to justify subsidising more urban areas... at the expense of our semi rural and rural communities?”
Mark has written to Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Exon Mobil (Esso) and now Total UK asking why they charge more for petrol in Wyre Forest. He will be putting any responses he receives on this website.
